Try Violin AI freeWhat it does
A browser-based chromatic tuner built for violin. It listens through your microphone, detects the pitch you are playing in real time, and shows how many cents sharp or flat you are against A=440 Hz. Nothing to install, and the audio never leaves your device.
How to use it
- 1Enable the microphone. Tap the button above and allow access. Work in a quiet room for a steady reading.
- 2Bow one open string. Long, slow and steady — a short or scratchy stroke gives the tuner nothing to lock onto.
- 3Read the meter. The note name and cents display tell you which way to go: positive cents means sharp, negative means flat.
- 4Adjust. Fine tuner clockwise raises the pitch, counter-clockwise lowers it. Use the pegs only for large corrections.
- 5Work through A, D, G, then E. Retune the A last if the others moved a lot — changing one string shifts the tension on the rest.
FAQ
- What notes is a violin tuned to?
- From lowest to highest: G3 (196 Hz), D4 (293.66 Hz), A4 (440 Hz) and E5 (659.25 Hz). The strings are tuned in perfect fifths.
- Is an online violin tuner accurate?
- Yes. This tuner reads pitch from your microphone using autocorrelation and shows the deviation in cents. Within ±5 cents is in tune; use a quiet room for the steadiest reading.
- Should I tune with pegs or fine tuners?
- Use fine tuners for small adjustments and pegs for bigger ones. Push the peg gently into the pegbox while turning so it does not slip.
- Do I need to allow microphone access?
- Yes, the tuner listens to your violin through the microphone. Audio is processed in your browser and never uploaded.
- What is A=440 Hz?
- It is the modern standard reference pitch. Some orchestras tune to 442 or 443 Hz; for solo practice stick to 440 so your ear stays consistent.
